Dry distillation of coal

LC2.2.1.1
Dry distillation of coal
Dry distillation of coal

Description

To refine the fossil energy source anthracite coal, it is converted into coke in a process called pyrolysis. During the process of coking, about a quarter of the coal accumulates as volatile components. These contain coal gas and anthracite coal tar. Both by-products are made visible experimentally by the students in a simplified setup.
