Influence of a change in pressure on the chemical equilibrium

LC3.5.2.3
Influence of a change in pressure on the chemical equilibrium
Influence of a change in pressure on the chemical equilibrium

Description

The position of the chemical equilibrium of a reaction can be influenced in accordance with Le Chatelier's principle. One way of doing this is to change the pressure in the reaction vessel. Especially reactions in which gases are formed can be influenced by a change in pressure. In this experiment, the students investigate the influence of pressure on the equilibrium position of the reaction of carbonic acid in water to form carbon dioxide.
