Description

One option of corrosion protection is to connect the workpiece to a sacrificial anode. In this experiment the students build a corrosion with sacrificial anode and compare it with the corrosion without sacrificial anode. The reaction products of the corrosion, hydroxide ions and iron ions, are made visible by indicators (phenolphthalein, potassium hexacyanoferrate). The students use a magnesium electrode as a sacrificial anode and thus protect the iron electrode connected to it from corrosion.
