The isoelectric point of amino acids

LC5.3.1.5
The isoelectric point of amino acids
The isoelectric point of amino acids

Description

In this experiment, the students learn about the isoelectric point as a characteristic of amino acids. They identify the isoelectric point through precipitation of the amino acid at the pH value corresponding to the isoelectric point. In doing this, they find out that amino acids as ampholytes can react both basic and acidic depending on the pH value. They also discuss the relevance of the isoelectric point for protein electrophoresis.
